Discovery to Product (D2P)

D2P provides free education and mentoring for UW-Madison faculty, staff, and student innovators who want to develop an idea for an innovative product, service, or novel approach to a social problem.

About

D2P provides mentoring, tools, funding and education to innovators at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. We also coordinate UW–Madison’s Innovate Network to connect campus partners and help aspiring entrepreneurs find and connect with the right commercialization resources at the right time.

D2P offers two cohort-based courses to help campus innovators execute on their innovative ideas, Innovation to Market (I2M) and Igniter. Programs are designed with a hands-on learning approach, and whether the end result is the formation of a startup or a fresh perspective on research, participants gain real experience in taking a concept from idea to reality. We also offer no-cost mentoring for campus innovators. Our mentors are veteran business developers, entrepreneurs, product managers, and start-up executives with specific industry experiences in physical sciences, engineering, life sciences, agricultural technology, food science, information technology, and consumer goods. D2P mentors stay with you for the long haul, offering individualized coaching and guidance for project teams at all stages, from pre-incorporation through growth. Entrepreneurship is another pathway for campus innovators to apply their work, research, creativity, and passion to impact lives locally and globally. D2P’s programs foster a community of faculty, staff and students who see the Wisconsin Idea as an action plan.
