The Weinert Center for Entrepreneurship at the Wisconsin School of Business fosters entrepreneurial thinking for UW-Madison students at all levels across campus, whether undergraduate or graduate, business majors, or students in a non-business program.

The Weinert Center supports teaching, research, and service to bring critical entrepreneurship and entrepreneurial thinking to startups and established organizations. Individuals in most careers will benefit from acquiring entrepreneurial skills and instilling an entrepreneurial spirit in an organization. Whether starting one’s own business or going to work for a larger organization, the Weinert Center curriculum provides students with the entrepreneurial skills needed to thrive in any business environment. Students with an entrepreneurial mindset provide a unique outlook and fresh problem-solving perspective to the companies they work for. 

Lifelong Learning Platform

  • Top tier educational platform to meet the demand for training entrepreneurs and those that wish to study entrepreneurship.
  • Unique entrepreneurship classes and academic programs offered.
  • Entrepreneurship courses focus on both starting and growing a business.
  • Support the careers and life goals of entrepreneurial-minded students
  • Students study and practice entrepreneurship by taking part in consulting projects in their classes and listening to guest speakers. Almost 400 students a year design t-shirts and sell between $40,000-$70,000 annually.

 Student Credit Learning Opportunities

  • The 12 credit entrepreneurship major is available to undergraduate students admitted to the Wisconsin School of Business. The 15 credit certificate in entrepreneurship is available to non-business students.
  • Graduate students have the option to earn graduate certificates in entrepreneurship and strategic innovation while enrolled in a degree-granting program.

 Deeper Dive in Entrepreneurship for Graduate Students

  • The Weinert Applied Ventures in Entrepreneurship (WAVE) applied practicum is available for select graduate students interested in starting and growing businesses.
  • The Morgridge Entrepreneurial Bootcamp is a one-week intensive training program in technology entrepreneurship for graduate students and postdocs in the sciences, engineering and math fields.
  • The Fellowship in Enterprise Development program is available for second year MBA students who want a more in-depth knowledge of entrepreneurship along with their specialization. Also includes co-curricular activities and mentoring from Advisory Board members.
  • The Ph.D. Minor in Entrepreneurship is a custom program for Ph.D. students outside the Wisconsin School of Business who are interested in policy and practicing entrepreneurship.

 Advising

  • Individual advising is offered in the BBA Advising Center.

 Events

  • The Distinguished Entrepreneurs Lunch is for all students on campus interested in entrepreneurship and networking with and learning from entrepreneurs.
  • PartnerUp! helps student entrepreneurs find co-founders.
  • Bi-yearly gathering of entrepreneurship- and innovation-focused student organizations.
  • Additional opportunities are provided for current students and alumni to connect with entrepreneurs through co-sponsorship of workshops.

 Competition

  • Assist with the Clinton Global Initiative University competition to address global challenges with students providing solutions.

Consulting

The Business & Entrepreneurship Clinic, funded by WARF, helps entrepreneurs navigate through the many business issues that arise when starting and growing a business.
